In the
Universe prior to carbon based life...natural things were occurring and going on
without the name, or concept work, without any measurements being acquired, and without any
predisposed intentions. There was Matter, there was Light, there was Space, there was
Pressure, there was Motion, Electricity and Magnetism. When matter interacted with other matter
there was pressure brought to bear, and things happened as natural physical
phenomena. There was Lightening, there was static electricity. And
there was probably magnetic lodestones and polar magnetic locations. I
admit this is fantasy... since no-one was there to confirm it as reality.
However for my purposes I am calling it reality based on pretty good evidence
that it had a high probability of being that way. There had to be atoms and
sub atomic particles... but if I were there just observing, feeling,
tasting, listening, and smelling__ things like atoms would not be very obvious.
The
work being done in this era was: rock pushing rock. Fluids pushing earth.
Particle radiation set in motion by pressure. Chemical reactions causing
heat, causing pressure. Wind blowing dust impacting rock and matter causing erosion...
No-one
measured the work being done throughout the Universe then; so there was no
mention of the ability or capacity to do work... called energy... Mass was
not a concept. Gravitation was probably real phenomena, but we still don't know how it works...
so it would need more thought, along with any observations, to make it obvious.
I am
using three billion years ago on Earth as a basic natural platform to
work from. As the progression of history went along and new things cooled,
solidified, changed; and new things came into being__ with our present knowledge
base, and hopefully scientific logical productive thinking__ what would we keep,
what would we modify, and what would we toss...?
I take
this tact to maybe sidestep personal pride, prejudice, and habitual assumptions.
I am asking that we toss out pull, and attraction. I am
saying the action of a force is only pressure. I say the Universe is in
total motion. I describe this total motion as always being accelerative.
Mankind has already tossed out the flat earth. Out went the Sun orbiting
the Earth. Is there a scientist out there, that can give a good viable
explanation of how any entity attracts another entity? Lincoln
Barnett wrote (refer to quote below) that Einstein went with "a conditioning of
Space". I like this. And, it bears out that bodies do not attract
each other... but, moreover do something to Space. Note: I remember
reading that Einstein said something like they just come together naturally.
He used his rubber sheet analogy for these scenarios... which in reality__ does use
pressure to bring spheres together, like surfing at the beach!
Most
all of us know of the purported experiment of Galileo dropping two unequal sized
balls from the Tower of Pisa. The balls were dropped from the same height
at the same moment, and... hit the ground at the same moment. (This is
disregarding air conditions and etc.) So generally when I hear people say, or
write about objects being dropped__
they
usually state they drop equally, or the same and etc. How many people give thought to what
happens if we drop each ball, one at a time, from a specified height and
point? Then compare measurements of fall duration. Did they drop
equally? Try thinking in a bit more extreme scenarios. What if the small iron ball is the size of a marble, and the large
ball is the size of the moon? Don't forget, gravitation of bodies is
mutual. And just for fun... for these thought experiments, as Einstein
liked to use... what if we drop an iron marble on one side of the Earth, and an
iron moon sized ball on the opposite side of the Earth, from the same height and
instant...? When thinking in this manner... we might learn to be careful
how we word the explanations or results of experiments, and be careful about making
assumptions, and or jumping to conclusions!?
In 1798
Henry Cavendish conducted a famous experiment of measuring gravitation by
suspending two smaller lead balls balanced at each end of a rod... which could
rotate, as two large solid lead spheres were brought near each small ball, one at
each end. A light beam was reflected off a mirror attached to the
suspension cable and reflected on, to the wall. The experiment worked , and
gravitation was measure pretty accurately. Each small ball came towards
their respective fixed large ball. But now, give some thought to the science of 1798__ and
science of the present. What would be the general conclusion of the results
back then?
The balls came together; so it was assumed that it was due to
gravitation, and it was assumed each ball acted on each other mutually, per their size and
distance and etc. And, since they did not move away from each other__
there obviously must be some form of "attraction" of the bodies, to bring them together.
(In one college physic book of mine... the word attraction is used six times in
the description of this experiment... ) Excluding Einstein... I cannot
recall having read very much about Space playing a part in the forces of
gravitation.
In 1881
A. A. Michelson devised an instrument, called an Interferometer. This device allowed
part of one beam of light to go straight, and part of the beam to reflect 90
degrees... with both beams coming back together after traveling equal distances
but in different directions. As the Earth traveled through Space, and the
device was faced in different directions... the results came out with both beams
always arriving at the detector at the same moment. This instrument can be
adjusted, and used for different experiments, but, most popular was the
experiment thought
to detect if there was an "ether wind." None was detected. The results, created a
lot of conjecture. I have also given it thought quite a few times. If
Space, consisted of some unknown ether, and there is this ether Space in, and about us here on Earth,
might that space move with Earth's frame of reference, then there indeed should
be no noticeable change for this instrument to detect anyway. Likewise, if Space were a void,
it would also not interfere with light as the machine moved through the heavens.
Also, if we ponder fields as electromagnetic in Space. They are said to not
have motion, which I can envision, such as a wave has matter go up and down
only, but gives the impression of progression... In the case of an
electromagnetic field, its only the values that change state. And, if they change
at the speed of light, since Light is thought to be electromagnetic..., again the
instrument should see no difference. Lastly, I presently think of Space
being occupied with Light, photons, that have the attribute of no at rest mass. The real kicker question for me: is
there inactive, or inert photon corpuscles within Space? I remind you, it
is now thought that when an electron drops to a lower energy level in an atom it
kicks out a photon of light, as electromagnetic heat, generally. This photon is
thought to be a virtual photon coming from the Space within the atom. I
ask, is this photon, just created__ or does it already exist, and is only
activated so to speak? And, I will mention that if Space is full of
inactive mass-less photon corpuscles... they, would likewise not interfere with
the Michelson Interferometer.
A lot
of science has passed now for mankind. A whole bunch has changed. And,
as the Universe seems to be always in a changing state, there is a lot to think
about... old and new.
~~~~~~~~
Anyway,
along came simple carbon based life. By design, or by accident, or both,
the explanation for life; is
definitely out of my league, but I suspect all of us wonder about this topic at
times. Then in the suspected primordial soup, or soups... there was
probably chemical reactions, heat, pressures, motions, matter, and space...
Then
there were beasts and plants. Following after that came mankind. I
would suspect the first work done, and tools used, by mankind was hands, feet, and
maybe breath. Work such as pressing dirt, as digging, with fingers
and hands, to find food. Picking food from plants with pressure from
between fingers, and pushing it into their mouths... These actions were
work using the body. Even walking in search of food and water is work.
I
suspect the very first non-body tool (or weapon) was a rock. It was
possibly used to swing or throw; to hit something by impact pressure.
My
guess for mankind's second inert tool, is the stick, twig, branch, stem, or
log. These items I will call the rod. The rod is also a
pressure device that can be used to dig, poke, stab, mix, or throw. If it
a strong enough rod, it can be used to pry up rocks, or other items.
Whenever it is used as a prying device, it is considered a lever. When a
rod is pointed, it is used primarily as a piercing tool. Some rods when
sharpened, as with a straight chisel edge, can do slicing or cutting. All these
actions require pressure.
And,
amazing enough, if enough rods are tied together at their centers as spokes
pointing outward in assorted directions... they create a crude wheel. It
can be said, a crude wheel, or maybe, any wheel is just a multitude of levers.
If you draw twenty or so straight line diameters across a common point on
paper... it is readily apparent that it turns into a wheel or circle. I
bet you don't usually think of wheels as levers, unless schooled in physics; and
even then, it doesn't get much thought. If I put enough diameters lines
(rods) through a common point in three dimension, I can easily create a sphere.
To
bring get back on tract... I cannot imagine any machine of mankind that does
not utilize some form of pressure, and most use the lever since actions of
all wheels are actually actions of leverage. Think about this... if this
is correct... it means computers, drills, autos, furnaces, shovels, boats, fans,
lathes, radios, phones, and etc... when really analyzed to the extreme are just
using matter, space, motion, and pressure.
These simple things are the natural mechanics
of then... and now!
The
goings on within the atom, gravitation, chemical reactions, atomic reactions,
nuclear reactions, and etc., are not machines of mankind, even though we may use
their actions and reactions to run our machines. Usually reactions
generate Light in the form of heat. Gravitation gives us weight from water
behind a dam... The electromagnetic gives us electrically generated magnetism
for electricity generation, running motors, igniting lamp bulbs, and etc.
But, most all of this can be equated to pressures, and the balance of actions
unexplained, like gravitation, still remains unknown. However we do utilize
gravitation phenomena with machines of our making, that are pressure devices. Hum...?
Physics
of Auto mechanics, Classical mechanics, and Quantum mechanics all just involve
pressure! Mechanics:__ Stabbing, wedging, rolling, writing, swinging,
singing, hearing, accelerating, breathing, flying, eating, running, playing,
repairing, painting, shoveling... etc, etc, on and on have the commonality of
the reality Pressure. The Universe could not function without good old Classical
Mechanical Physics Motion, Pressure, Matter, and Space to Play. I weigh
heavily on: Even, Quantum Mechanics cannot get along without the classic
physic's fundamentals of
motion, pressure, matter, and space...
