This is the Heathkit GR-54 shortwave receiver. The radio covers 200 kHz to 30 MHz in 5 bands and receives AM/SSB (LSB/USB switchable) and CW transmissions. This radio was given to me (with the manual) as somewhat of a basket case. The back, bottom and some screws are missing as well as the loopstick antenna. To top it all off, it doesn't work worth a darn (typical of many kits out there). Currently, it's on my refurbish list and, although not really rare, I thought I'd put it up on the Web page for those who appreciate (or used to own) these receivers.
This is the Heathkit BE-4 battery eliminator, basically a variable output DC supply. This one is rated at 0-6V@10A or 0-12V@5A. Back in the "good old" days, one could use the battery eliminator to power mobile radio equipment (instead of running the car battery down). Of course, much of yesteryear's "mobile" gear often required DC currents that surpassed the capabilities of even THIS unit. Today's "solid state" gear is much more particular about the quality of power you feed it. Though the old battery eliminator still might have a place in some shacks, it has, for the most part, been replaced by modern highly regulated and filtered supplies. I guess I'll just have to find more "boatanchors" to use this one with.
